Day Trip to the Blue River

I had a half day vacation and since I have half day Fridays for the holidays I decided to use my half day and get up to the Blue River in Oklahoma. It was extremely foggy driving up in the morning. At times, I was driving 30 mph on Interstate 75.

Overall I probably had my best trip ever to the Blue River. I probably saw 5 people the entire day. It was very quite and I never had any problems fishing any hole I wanted. I saw one other fly fisherman and the rest were Bait Chunkers. In all, I probably caught 40-50 Rainbow Trout. Honestly I lost count, but who is to complain when your catching fish. :-) I have been up to the Blue River and gotten skunked, a big fat goose egg. But not today!! The few people I ran into on the trail kept saying, "It sure is slow today" and I would reply, "Yep, sure is" with a sheepish grin on my face.

I caught all the fish today on a BH Gold Ribbed Hare's Ear Nymph #14 and it was Dark Olive. I tied them last night, but one thing that I do different on mine that I think is very key is that I tie in some extra wide, Salt Water Falshabou (Tinsel Flash) in over the turkey feather wing case. This gives the wing case the appearance that it is opening up and it looks really, REALLY good in the water. Anyways, enough of me blabbering away, here are some of the pictures I took today.

I ran into this little fella on the road along the river. I practically walked right up to him and he didn't even know it. When I tapped him with my foot, he jumped 6 inches off the ground and ran off.
Tight Lines,
Brad
